Simone Micheletti presents the Sardinia Agro Solar Energy project
Cagliari, 14 July 2026 – Futura Group took part in the conference “BESS as System Infrastructure: Technology, Permitting, Markets and Operations”, organised by AEIT Sardinia Section and held on 13 July 2026 in the Main Lecture Hall of the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Cagliari.
The event brought together representatives from public institutions, academia and industry, as well as leading operators within Italy’s national electricity system, to explore the strategic role of BESS – Battery Energy Storage Systems in the energy transition, grid security and the integration of renewable energy sources.
Among the speakers, Simone Micheletti, Chief Executive Officer of Futura Group, presented the Sardinia Agro Solar Energy project in Pimpisu, in the Municipality of Serramanna. The project is one of the Group’s most significant investments in advanced agrivoltaics and energy storage.
The project combines a 40.8 MW advanced agrivoltaic plant with a 19.8 MW BESS, providing 2.4 hours of storage capacity and an overall grid connection capacity of 50 MW.
Simone Micheletti’s presentation provided a tangible example of how solar power, energy storage systems and agriculture can be integrated into a single energy infrastructure, contributing simultaneously to renewable energy generation, grid flexibility and the enhancement of the local area.

BESS, Terna and electricity system security at the heart of the discussion
The programme featured representatives from some of the leading institutions and organisations involved in the development of Italy’s energy system.
Speakers included Giuseppe Corrente from the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security – MASE, Marco Turchiano and Rosario Maria Polito from Terna, Germana Cassar from DLA Piper, Professor Gaetano Armao, President of the Specialist Technical Committee for Environmental Authorisations of the Sicilian Region, and Nuria Liang from BYD.
The closing round table, dedicated to “BESS and the energy system: challenges and development prospects”, involved Emanuele Cani, Councillor for Industry of the Autonomous Region of Sardinia, Professor Fabrizio Pilo of the University of Cagliari and Federico Quaglia of Terna.
The discussion addressed several key issues for the future of energy in Italy: the security and stability of the electricity system, the growth of BESS, market regulation, permitting processes, the integration of renewable energy and grid development.
Sardinia Agro Solar Energy: agrivoltaics and battery storage for the energy transition
Futura Group’s participation in the conference brought the practical experience of Sardinia Agro Solar Energy to the centre of the debate. The project represents the evolution of the traditional solar power generation model towards a more integrated energy system.
The increasing penetration of renewable energy sources such as solar and wind makes the availability of infrastructure capable of storing energy and feeding it back into the grid when it is most needed increasingly important.
In this context, Battery Energy Storage Systems can help increase the flexibility of the electricity system, support the integration of renewable energy sources and strengthen grid security.
